Sun Microsystems Netra T1
This machine is the heart of my network. This machine only takes 1 rack unit of space (1.75 inches) and uses less power than a 100 watt light bulb. It doesn't generate much heat, so that keeps my power bills low. The Lights-Out Management (LOM) allows me to monitor temperature, fan speeds, and alarms remotely.
Here's what it does:
- NIS (master) and NFS server (for the other UNIX boxen)
- Primary domain controller and print server for the Windows machines (using SunLink PC)
- AppleTalk fileserver for the IIgs (really!)
- Oracle database server (for my DBA fiddling)
- Router/NAT gateway/firewall (100Mb ethernet to cable modem and wireless LAN)
- Primary DNS server (split brain with caching)
- Internal to external mail relay
Here's the hardware it has to do it:
- 1x500MHz UltraSPARC IIi processor
- 1 GB of RAM
- 2 72GB drives (mirrored)
- Solaris 9
- CD-ROM
- DLT7000 tape drive
- One SunSwift FW-SCSI/100Mb ethernet board
