I ordered this filter direct from the manufacturer. It is made in the USA and is very competitively priced, both of which appeal to me. Externally, the filter carries a semi-O ring seal and has good thread depth. Upon dissection, the filter proved to be quality built. The endcaps are formed metal, and are well finished; no rough edges were apparent. The front seal is held captive by a sharp shoulder on the upper endcap, making for positive placement and retention, similar to the NAPA. One feature that this filter sported that I have not seen in any other model: the bypass valve is topped with rubber, forming what would appear to be a better seal at the back end, too.

Perf-form prefers that these filters be ordered in quantity of four. I don't recall seeing this at the time I ordered, but it was highlighted on the receipt they sent me. Shipping is via Priority Mail through the U.S. Postal Service. It cost $4.00 for shipping, an attractive alternative to other mailorder houses which use other commecial carriers, often at more expense. Perf-form touts their glass media as being more effective than other types. It is a claim that is probably worth reading more about. They also send you a catalog and a sticker, in case your toolbox does not have enough. This is a filter that I can buy and feel good about.

Update 7/08/2003: Steve De Santolo informs me that Perf-form has changed ownership. I also noted that they now use UPS to ship their product, which may add slightly to the cost of these filters.

Update 12/16/2003: I have recieved and cut open a new Perf-form which is marked "Made in Korea". You'll find that review here.
